What is a .lub file?

I'm wondering because there is a file called makelub.bat in the scrpits folder that makes .lub files out of the .lua files.
Also, anyone have an idea on what luac.exe (also located in scrpits folder) does? I doesn't seem to do anything.

I've also noticed that there are these files but I do not know what they are but I do not mean to start them not someone who would know what these files do not even know the type well at least I gave you an answer I xD
